The Bauen Camp announces Year Three of its Education Intern Program, a multi-generational program for artists, youth development professionals, teachers, political and business leaders interested in learning how a residential camp venue for youth ages 13-18 teaches the use of art skills to build social creativity and responsibility. Interns have the opportunity to participate in staff orientation, curriculum development, scheduling, teaching, counseling, planning and research, including use of the camp library. Intern activities may include production and administration assistance, participation in campers daily workshops and final camp performances, cooking, workshop presentation, and facilitating community connections.

Applicants must have an outstanding practice and knowledge of an artistic discipline(s) or other disciplines related to the work of the Bauen Camp, such as youth development, conservation, or social entrepreneurship, with a keen interest in the Bauen Camp mission.

The 2007 tuition-based program runs from June 25 through August 23. Interns are provided with Room and Board. They provide their own transportation and the tuition fee of $3000, except where corporate, foundation or individual sponsored scholarships have been donated to Bauen to cover these costs. A written report of the Bauen Camp Internship experience is required. Follow-up networking and/or presentations in local communities are encouraged.

Two interns are selected for each summer session. Interested applicants are encouraged to make application well ahead of the summer season. The application process includes:

•  Resume
•  ACA yellow application form (request) and all health forms at website
•  Three letters of recommendation (email okay)
•  Phone interview.
•  Tuition payment program

Christopher Bradley, Brooklands, Qld, AU, 2004 Intern, and Michiko Akiba, Fukuoka, Japan, 2005 Intern, were our first Education Interns. Their presence enriched the life of the camp.

Michiko is a cultural writer and graduate in economics from Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo. A graduate student for three years at Kinki University in Fukuoka , and former Managing Director of the Hoshinofurusato Foundation of Japan. She is now working with new Bauen Board member Keiyo Fujihara, father of 2005 Session Two camper Kaze Fujihara, to explore building Bauen-like networks in Japan. Since returning to Japan, Michiko made two public presentations on the Bauen Camp and its programming – for undergraduates and graduate students, architects, museum curators and artists. She visited the camp last February, 2006 to learn more about the camp's administration and to help us with the work at hand. She will attend the American Camping Association Annual Conference in Chicago with Jessica.
