Medical Services

Please see the required medical forms under the APPLICATIONS AND FORMS section. Staff, campers, Education Interns and residential volunteers are required to have these forms sent to the Camp Director at last two weeks prior to arrival. Information in these forms is confidential and will be used only by the Camp Director, health care providers and medical personnel. Where appropriate, however, specific items may be shared with faculty and the teaching/counseling staff. New ACA regulations require that all residents of camp have a physical exam by licensed physician within the past 12 months prior to attendance, or where warranted, within the past 6 months. Care should be taken to include every physical or mental examination and/or prescription within the past 12 months.

ON SITE HEALTH CARE PROVIDER: A Registered Nurse will check in all residential camp personnel. Arrangements to leave the campsite will be made when personnel do not have the proper forms or signatures at the check-in screening. The Bauen Camp maintains second level first aid and CPR coverage on duty at all times (Counselor/Teachers with these qualifications). All staff are required to have current certification in basic first aid and CPR coverage. A Registered Nurse will screen all staff and campers within 24 hours of arrival and collect medications, which will be kept under lock, to be dispensed by a health care provider. Previously arranged contacts with a local licensed physician and/or registered nurse are available for phone consultations.

Our medical and other emergency procedures are part of staff and camper oreintation. The closest fire and emergency first aid services are located in Dayton, WY, 22 miles from the Bauen Camp. The closest 24 hours MD staffed hospital emergency room is in Sheridan, WY, 44 miles from the Bauen Camp. The Bauen Camp notifes the Sheridan County Sheriff, the City of Sheridan Polic, Sheridan Memorial Hospital Emergency Services, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, and local 911 at the beginning of each season, noting summer programs and field trips. We arrange to meet emergency vehicles half-way between the camp and the vehicle source, which cuts the response time. Billings, MT, hospitals, 120 miles from the Bauen Camp, maintain emergency helicopter service.
